The Beef and Burgundy is held each year on the evening before the Melbourne Cup (the first Tuesday in November). It is a Calcutta where the horses running in the Melbourne Cup are auctioned off to the highest bidder. A three course meal is provided with the auction being the main attraction of the night. The church takes a percentage of the money raised in the bidding and the rest is divided between 1st, 2nd, 3rd and last place. This is another major fundraiser for the church. People form syndicates to buy horses and some horses are sold for over $500. |
